A Brief History
In June 2009, Elmer Dispo (121), Noel Cayago (136), Mark Jaramilla (147), Hervey Herrera (148), and Kevin Bernadino (274) trekked out on bicycles to Golden Gate Park to enjoy a sunny day in San Francisco. They tossed around some ideas about making it an annual event and eventually came to the conclusion that an event like it should not be limited to just XPOs. After some deliberation, they held the inaugural Tour Ng XPO on July 13, 2009.
Why Tour De XPO?
XPO believes in maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle. Tour Ng XPO promotes this goal with a non-competitive and socially engaging program: Cycling has proven to be a healthy form of recreation and creates a form of comaraderie, while allowing an individual to accomplish their personal goals. It is not a race. Nobody gets left behind, just like in the XPO brotherhood. All that is asked from participants is that they arrive on time and they do not give up!
How is cycling related to XPO?
Ever heard of Tour of Luzon? Its most current title is Padyak Pinoy (aka Tour of the Philippines or Tour ng Pilipinas), which is a competitive race held annually in the Philippines. Pilipinos have had interest in cycling since the 1950s and even today remain competitive in the cycling world. For example, Nino Surban was the 2009 1st Place Winner of the ASEAN Mountain Bike Championship. Joel Calderon was the 2009, Padyak Pinoy champion. Also, Mark Guevarra was the 2009 Liquigaz-LPGMA Tour of Luzon winner and Lloyd Lucien Reynante was the overall individual runner-up in the Padyak Pinoy and Tour Luzon. These riders represented the Philippines with pride and honor!
Who can join Tour Ng XPO?
Anybody can join Tour Ng XPO! Though it would be possible to arrange XPO-only rides, XPO supports a greener, healthier society for everyone. To limit ourselves from exposure to an already established cycling community would only deter our learning and network capacity. So family, friends, brothers, and non-brothers are all welcome!
